In late 2017, the consulting division of the Advisory Board Company became part of Optum Advisory Services. Combining our capabilities has proven powerful. I credit our success to the talented people, powerful analytics and our sole focus on health care. Over the course of the last year, our combined organization has received recognition and honorable mentions.
Everest Group’s PEAK Matrix assesses service providers’ capabilities and identifies them as Leaders, Major Contenders and Aspirants. The Matrix framework helps objectively assess service providers in a data-driven way. It allows you to compare service providers based on their absolute market impact, vision and capability. Everest Group analyzed 20 service providers and named Optum as a Leader in Healthcare Consulting. The report recognizes our diverse capabilities spanning the entire consulting value chain that caters to payers, care providers and PBMs across the globe.
As partner at Everest Group, Jimit Arora leads the organization’s IT services research practice. Arora had the following to say about Optum Advisory Services:
“Healthcare organizations are looking for healthcare consulting firms to effectively adapt to digital business models, manage their cost equation, improve quality of care delivered, and navigate through regulatory uncertainties. Optum, with its deep domain strengths, strong data assets, and differentiated consulting pedigree, is positioned well to help healthcare organizations navigate these winds of change and embrace the digital-first normal.” —Jimit Arora, Partner, Everest Group
Modern Healthcare recently published its “By the Numbers” ranking of the largest health care management consulting firms (ranked by 2017 total health care revenue). Optum ranked second on the list of 25 health care consulting firms.
2018 KLAS Healthcare Management Report:
Clients rated Optum Advisory Services the highest for expertise among Focused Healthcare-Specific consulting firms. KLAS published the results in its 2018 KLAS Healthcare Management Report. According to the report, clients often view Optum Advisory Services experts as “trusted partners” who help to guide an organization’s vision and strategy, and solve problems. Clients noted:
“Optum’s deep knowledge allows for the quick and clear decisions in value-based care, and Optum’s depth and experience allow them to come to the table prepared with solutions to challenges that haven’t arisen yet.”
“Optum is actuarially driven; they are negotiating deals where the minutia is important…things that could make or break a contract.”
We’re honored that these reputable organizations recognized us for the work we do to impact real people every day. We are playing a direct role in making health care better. Our work relates to many facets of health care including quality, operations, profitability, infrastructure and much more.
We have a team of more than 1,400 experts with specialized knowledge, including 125 actuaries and 52 clinicians. We are more than consultants. We have walked in the shoes of many of the clients we serve. The power of our analytics and data also sets us apart. In Optum Advisory Services, we don’t just have the advanced analytical tools. We know what to do with the data. And that data includes 98 million lives represented in clinical data and 188 million lives in claims data.
We can help our clients chart strategic courses. We focus solely on health — across the entire health care spectrum. That includes payers, providers, life sciences, employers, government and consumers. From this position, we can help clients create new partnerships. I don’t view this as strictly payer or provider partnerships; imagine the potential in convergence. More than ever, I am convinced that Optum Advisory Services is a powerful force for making the health care system work better for everyone.
